Rainbow Serpent is a fully integrated residential art system developed in collaboration with A Class Homes for a contemporary private residence in Watson. Evolving from an initial digital engagement into a construction-stage collaboration, the project embeds art directly into the architecture during the build stage. Rainbow Serpent, a crowning 3.5-metre feature artwork, is supported by two smaller interactive works that are in the hallway, forming a unified spatial sequence that guides movement and attention through the home.

Designed for integration during construction, the artworks were coordinated closely with the builder and trades to meet structural and safety requirements. As it sits flush within the wall plane, the primary work acts as a visual and spatial anchor, while the secondary pieces activate circulation spaces that lead to the flagship piece.

 

Rainbow Serpent demonstrates how visually engaging art, conceived as a form of architecture, has the power to shape atmosphere and experience at a fundamental level.
